The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil has condoled the passing away of the noted theatre personality, Shri Habib Tanvir.

In a condolence letter written to Shri Tanvir's daughter, Ms. Nageen, the President has described him as an acclaimed playwright, actor and director who was known for his innovative style and approach to theatre. The President has said his passing away leaves a colossal void.
