The Roshni Prachodaya Society of the President's Estate has received the prestigious Golden Peacock Environment Management Award for the year 2012 in the category - Government, awarded by the Institute of Directors.
The Award was accepted on behalf of the Roshni Prachodaya Society, by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Christy Fernandez during the 14th World Congress on Environment Management in New Delhi today. The award was given away by Dr. Karan Singh, President, ICCR. The Awards Jury was chaired by the former Chief Justice of India and Member, United Nations Human Rights Commission, Justice P.N. Bhagwati.
The Award will go a long way in boosting the Brand Image of the Society and encourage sharing of valuable initiatives and rich experiences that have come out of the Society's work.
Roshni Prachodaya Society is a part of the Roshni green initiative started at the behest of the President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, encompassing environment management and empowerment of local communities to create eco-friendly, sustainable urban habitats, through participation of stakeholders and convergence of partnership programmes. The Roshni initiative is currently an ISO compliant model with requisite process documentation, proven strategies for implementation and with tangible impact analysis. The 7 major environmental interventions under the initiative are:- (1) Solid Waste Management, (2) Liquid Waste Management, (3) Water Conservation, (4) Bio-Diversity Conservation, (5) Energy Audit and Energy Conservation, (6) Use of New and Renewable Energy Sources and (7) Community Participation.
